Academic Goals

Last year we really focused the kids during April Achievers on CRT scores.  It was such a success last year that we are going to focus on CRT scores starting in January with a Bob the Builder Theme of “We Can Do It”.  Each class has gone through a data study with the principal and established goals based on their class performance on CRTs and the previous grades’ scores on CRTs.  Those are posted in each classroom and in school goals are posted in the hallways as a constant reminder.  It was suggested that parent involvement in the testing kick off isn’t necessary—that the kickoff should be more kid based.

Preschool Issues

Preschool will remain at Sunnyside City buildings until further notice.  The seminary is cleaned and once all the land swaps are finalized and signed off, we can get a certificate of occupancy and move the preschool over.  Maintenance is still going to try to do some retrofits prior to move in.

Title I, Trustlands, Budget Cuts

Due to looming budget cuts at the state level, SCC is going to need to make some decisions on our current funding sources.  After the legislative session, SCC will determine how much of Trustlands monies can continue to be used for the violin program.  It was suggested that we obtain corporate sponsors for the music program, especially her salary, in an effort to use Trustlands monies to pay for online writing programs and relicense our current software licenses for Successmaker and/or Waterford.  In the meantime, the school and district are making changes in spending.  Going Green Week for the second week of January is a good example as well as the District Office stopping all our of state travel for professional development.

IV.   Discussion

Staff Changes

With the recent changes in our staff due to the resignation of the sixth grade teacher and with recent budget cuts, Mrs. Sanderson will remain the 5th grade teacher and Mrs. Milburn in sixth grade without posting for a new job; the 6th grade position will be considered one of the budget cuts.  It was asked if this is going to stay in effect for next year or if we will have to run upper grade split level classes next year.  Mrs. Hamilton will research this and offer more input at next meeting.

Parent Support/Involvement

It was asked if the weekly envelopes are getting well received in the school community.  The consensus among the parents was that yes, the information was getting read.  Parents felt like the Fridge Facts are especially helpful.

Other

There was concern about the Free/Reduced status for lunch for next year.  There is confusion as to when Bruin Point parents start paying for lunches.  Mrs. Hamilton will clarify this is the weekly bulletin for Monday January 12.  Further, a proactive measure will take place during SEPs in February where all parents will be asked to fill out the F/R form again to see if we can avoid “paying status” for lunch.
