Minutes from the School Community Council Meeting at Carbon High on Thursday, November 12, 2009.

In Attendance:  Mrs. Moynier, Mrs. Scoville, Ms. Gilson, Mrs. Howell, Mr. Alleman, Mrs. Krompel, Mr. Jensen and Mr. Stanfield
Guests:  Mrs. Nowack and company from Southeastern Utah Health District

Mrs. Nowack and companion gave a 5 minute presentation on tobacco products currenty being sold.  They explained how tobacco is now being packaged differently and may not even look like a tobacco product.  We were shown examples of the different products to be aware of.

Mr. Stanfield welcomed everyone, the minutes from October's meeting were read.  Mrs. Moynier made a motion to approve the minutes and Ms. Gilson seconded the motionn, there were no objections and the minutes were appoved.
Mr. Stanfield discussed the district training we received on November 4th for School Community Council for those that missed the training.
Friends of Rachel Theme for the month is BE THANKFUL.  Staff member of the month is Mrs. Tubbs and Student of the Month is Zach Regis
A food drive was held in October and another is being held this month in competition with Emery High.  The food bank is very thankful for all donation as they are very low this year.
Mr. Stanfield discussed the new I.D. Badge policy that is being enforced at Carbon.  A letter was sent home to all  parents (see attached) regarding this matter and the procedures being implemented for those students who do not visibly wear their badges.
Mr. Stanfield also talked about the new dress code changes being implemented at Carbon after many students were in violation of the dress code.  Mr. Stanfield bought sweatpants at DI and those in violation can put them on to cover up or call a parent to bring appropriate attire for the day however if they are still in violation the following will be implemented...First offense will be a 5 day lunch detention.  2nd offense will be a 5 day lunch detention plus ISS  referral and the 3rd offense will include a 5 day lunch detention, OSS refferal and a parent meeting.
Mr. Stanfield mentioned the Math Urgency Meeting held by the district in which once again the district has decided too much homework is being given to students. Mrs. Harmond was the only member of SCC to attend this meeting.  She stated there were only 7 other parents in attendance and that the homework issue was not really discussed especially for secondary students.  Mr. Stanfield will be holding a meeting with his staff to discuss this matter.
Mr. Stanfield handed out a copy of the Wasatch County School District Athletic Code of Conduct for us to go over as a reference for our new code of conduct being written.  We were to go over it for next meeting, see what we liked or disliked, and to come up with ideas we would like to see in the Carbon code.
Mr. Stanfield also touched on the Rave Drug Community Event we had talked about doing.  The district has said they would like to see it happen if we would be willing to spearhead this event.  We will come up with a night and some ideas next meeting and hope to have this event sometime after the first of the year.

Next meeting Thursday December 3rd at 7am
